- Bonsai plants can be kept in the house as per Vaastu directionology.
Durba grass should be planted in the north eastern corner.
Bed Room
- Square and rectangular shaped bedrooms are the best.
- Master bed room should preferably be in SW
- North West / SE bed room is good for girls / guests.
- South bed room is good for adult male and female.
- Bed should not be below the beam.
- Wardrobe should be on South and or West wall.
- Beds should be of good quality wood. They should be solid and must not be shaky.

Cosmic Energy– North-east is the direction of cosmic energy. It is the zone that is influenced by some frequencies and wavelength and affects the organs from top of the head to the neck area.
Directions– Vedic astrology takes into account twelve zodiac signs, nine planets and twenty seven constellations (nakshatras) and their combined effect on an individual. The zodiac signs are associated to the five elements and signify certain directions. The different directions are indicated according to the ascending sign or lagna of the master of the house as per Brihat Parashar Hora Shastra and Phaladeepika.
The eastern direction is related to the fire element and is associated with Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. The Southern direction is for the earth element and is related to Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Western zone is for the Air element and is associated with Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. North is related to the water element and includes Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.
The importance of the directions as indicated in the scriptures is as follows-
East (Purab), Pitrusthana- This zone should not be blocked as it is the source of male issues.
South East (Aagneya)- It is the source of well-being (Associated with fire, cooking and food)
South (Dakshina)- This area is the source of prosperity and happiness
South West (Nairitya)- It is the source of behaviour, character, longevity and death
West (Paschima)- It is the source related to name and fame
North West (Vaayavya)- It is the source of change in the course of friendship, business and hostility
North (Uttara)- This area should not be blocked as it is the source of female issues
North East (Eshanya)- It is the source of well-being, prosperity and is associated with male issues.
Every corner can be divided into two sides each:
North East- 1. East North East- The eastern corner of North East
- North North East- The northern side of North East
South East– 1. East South East- The eastern corner of South East
- South South East- The southern side of South East
South West- 1. South South West- The southern side of South West
- West South West- The western side of South West
North West- 1. West North West- The western corner of the North West direction
- North North West- The northern corner of the North West direction
Dining Room– The Western zone is ideal for the dining room, though Eastern and Northern corners are acceptable too. It is advised that the kitchen and dining room should be on the same floor as carrying food up and downstairs is considered extremely inauspicious. While dining, the best direction to face is the Eastern direction. The senior-most member of the family should sit facing this direction. The rest of the family members can face East, West or the Northern corner but avoid facing the Southern direction. Folding tables should be avoided in the dining space as they lack stability. Square or rectangular shaped tables are the ideal ones to use. The door should either be in the Eastern, Northern or Western corners. The Bathroom should never be attached to the dining room.
Exit Door
- Exit door may be provided on the other side depending on the main entrance door.
- Exit door should be smallest door of the building.
Frequency- It is true that every object in this universe vibrates in its own frequency. In the Vedas too, it is said that everything in this universe makes its own sound. It is called Nada Brahma in Vedas. Therefore, a human body vibrates in its own frequency and the building structure in its own frequency. Each has its own colour, wave length etc. The frequency of a building should match with the frequency of the inhabitants for optimum harmony and growth.
Garage– Outhouses and garages should be constructed in the Western zone, South and South West zones. Garages built in the North West and South East zones too will not get unfavourable results. A garage constructed in the central or North East zone is not permissible. Outhouses or garages should be built in such a manner that they do not come in contact with the compound wall or main building. There must be a gap of minimum 6” for the purpose of air circulation around the living premises.
Health– Both the natural environment and built environment play a major role in our well-being and happiness. We tend to absorb and then reflect the impact made by earth, sun, water and air along with the influences from climatic changes, plants and animals. The incompatibility between human and space has been a matter of grave concern in the whole world. Several diseases such as cancer, infertility, asthma, backache and many auto-immune ailments have a strong relationship with the house in which the patient lives. Each sector of the house has a direct relationship with each organ of the body. Any kind of imbalance in the house energy affects the body organs in a negative manner thus causing ailments. Harmful building material, unethical building practices, undesirable natural exploitation, and unnecessary application of modern practices only worsen the situation. Vaastu Shastra is an Indian science to help strike an energy balance between human and the environment.
The materials used to build a house should allow a free passage of energy, let the life energy flow in and the charged energy to flow out. Just as our body prefers to wear clothes made of natural fabric, it feels good in a house which is made up of natural and breathing materials. These materials should not be toxic and should not attract electromagnetic fields. Use of natural materials that breathes such as stone, tile, brick, true adobe, bamboo, wood and natural linoleum for the construction of walls, floors and roofs increases the energy and health of a space and the people dwelling in it. It is advisable to avoid synthetic materials. For instance, when we use certain plastics, they release unhealthy substances in the air for years, thus creating a toxic environment at home. It is good to plan a good ventilation because the better a ventilation is planned, the higher is the energy level of a space. One should be positive all along the process of planning and building the house. A joyful atmosphere during the building process ensures that our house vibrates with happiness and joy forever.
Instruments– Northern direction is one of the most important corners in relation to the construction of a house. The magnetic compass is a device that helps to measure the magnetic axis and detect the true cardinal north. The digital compass is made based on electronic rearing sensor technology and its function is to detect the right direction and right degree. It has a detachable string attached to it which makes it an easy-to-use device for external activities. Lecher antenna is a device that measures the defective human energy meridians and changes in the fields and also enables us to know the part of the house that needs correction. With the help of this tool, one can come to know of the Vaastu defects of a site without actually visiting it. The bio feedback energy tester enables to measure the flow within the different energy circuits of the body and compare it with the global energy potential of the body. Dowsing rod is a handheld device that is a basic gadget one should learn to use before using the Lecher Antenna. The main function of this device is to detect any unhealthy spot and negative geopathic stress points which can later help the lecher antenna. The H3 Gold Antenna is a modern tool that is more powerful and effective than the Laser Antenna. By the help of this tool, one can detect the polluted water veins. It uses the radiaesthesia technique by which the cosmic, global, telluric energy can be detected in the subtlest manner. The electro stress meter possesses a sensitive antenna system that makes the alternating magnetic and electric fields and the high frequency radiations visible.
Jyotish– Vaastu is yoked firmly to the indigenous field of astrology known as Jyotish vidya and the concept of favourable time is the key in deciding the time when the various stages of construction can be initiated. While Jyotish is related to time, Vaastu is connected with space. Both these sciences are interdependent and interrelated to each other.
As per Vaastu, the construction of a house should commence only during these periods-
Phalgun (February to March 13)
Vaishaka (April 14 to May 13)
Shravan (July 14 to August 13)
These dates are known to be beneficial for the well-being of the house. The rest of the days are not regarded as auspicious ones to begin construction work. Also, all construction ventures should begin only when the moon is waxing and not waning. Here the symbolism is that during this time things tend to move towards completion. Days 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11 and 13 of the waxing moon are regarded extremely beneficial. Each day of the week possesses certain special qualities that affect the appropriateness of beginning the construction work-
Construction work beginning on Monday brings about prosperity and happiness
Tuesday is not a favourable day to begin construction work
Wednesday begets joy and material gains
Thursday leads to long life and happy family life
Friday begets peace of mind and progress in life
Saturday is a popular day in Rajasthan only to begin construction work
Sunday is an inappropriate day to begin construction work as it invites misery.
Months that have two full moons (also known as blue moon months) should be avoided to begin construction work. The entry into a new house (grihapravesh) too has a similar set of auspicious times. One of the most important rules is that a person should move into a new house immediately after the housewarming is held. The most favourable months to move into the new house are:
Magh (January 14 to February 13)
Phalgun (February 14 to March 13)
Vaishakha (April 14 to May 13)
Jyeshtha (May 14 to June 13)
Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday are considered unfavourable for entering a new house. Days 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13 and 15 of the waxing moon are auspicious. Daylight is the best time to enter into a new house
Kitchen
- Kitchen should be in either SE or North West.
- It should not be in NE / SW / Center
- Cooking gas should be on East platform.
- Cooking oven should neither face the main door nor the toilet door.
- Cooking stoves should not be placed directly under a toilet on the floor above.
- Kitchen and cooking oven should never be in the middle or central portion of the house or flat.
- Placing the cooking gas oven under a staircase is also bad.
- Drinking water should be in NE.
- It is better to have cupboards on west or south sides with fewer shelves.
- Stone or Marble should be used for kitchen platform. Granite should be avoided.
- Stainless steel sinks are generally good. It should be positioned in from of window towards North or East if not exactly on the North-east.
- Food grains and cereals should be kept inside covered racks. Crockery may be kept inside glass shelves.
- General good colors for kitchen are pink, yellow and blue.
- One door in kitchen is good. If two doors are lined up so that they are opposite to each other it is bad and it must be avoided at all costs.
- In an open kitchen plan also all the guidelines should be taken care of.
- Cutlery in general and knives in particular should always be kept safely preferably in a drawer. Bins should have a lid on them. Emptying them very often is beneficial.
- Refrigerator should be kept away from the cooking oven because of their nature of opposite elements. Good color for the refrigerator is white, blue, green and silver.
- Fridge should not be kept in North-east or South-east corner.
- Exhaust fans are good provided these are placed correctly. It is not bad if a large window exists in the kitchen to get rid of cooking odours and unhealthy smells.
- The washing machine should be kept on the Northwest side. Better to avoid washing in kitchen because the elements clash between themselves.
- The kitchen should have good air and ample sunlight. Arrangements should also be made for sufficient light during the night.
Kitchen should be periodically de-cluttered. Also, all possible sound polluting equipment should be repaired to avoid noisy sounds of viz., squeaking machines, vibrating refrigerators, roaring exhaust fans and humming mixers.
Living Room– The best corners for the living room are in the North and East zones. The doors should be positioned on the Eastern or Western corners of the room. Chandeliers should not be positioned in the geometrical centre to avoid the Brahmasthanas (central zone) from being overburdened. The living space should not display any image or artwork that depicts human misery or suffering. Religious pictures or images should not be placed above the entrance doors. The television set should not be placed in the North Eastern or South Western zone. It should ideally be placed in the South Eastern corner. Telephones can be placed in the East or South East corner but not in North, North West or South Western corners. As per Vaastu guidelines, furniture in the living rooms should be square or rectangular shapes for establishing balance and stability. Couches and chairs should be arranged along the Eastern, Western and Northern sides.
Lofts– Lofts are of high importance in the modern multi-storeyed apartments. These provide space for storing essential objects of the house. A loft should be built in the Southern or Western zones. The North Eastern or Central zone should be avoided for construction of lofts. These can however be built in the balcony of a house if the balcony is in the Southern or Western zone. Lofts should not be built in Northern, Eastern or North Eastern balcony. Care should be taken so that the loft remains clutter-free. Any kind of mess in the loft produces stagnant energy which is detrimental for the environment of the house.
Main Door or Main Entrance
- Entrance door should be bigger in comparison with rest of the doors.
- Height of the door should be twice its width.
- Door should always be placed accurately upright.
- Total number of doors, windows and ventilators on each floor should be in even numbers but should end with zero (10, 20, 30 etc.)
- Dwar dosh i.e. any obstruction in-front of the gate / door like tree, pole, column, lift, staircase, well etc. within a distance twice the height of the door should be avoided.
- Have the main entrance in the exalted grids as per Vaastu guidelines. The main door should be the biggest door in the residence. It should preferably be of two shutters.
- Divide any direction into nine parts. Of these the fourth part from the left is the auspicious division for an entrance. If the entrance is at the place other than this, then a pyramidal canopy is necessary over the door as a remedial measure.
- It should be remembered that main door should never be to the East of South East, West or South of South West and North of North West.
- In addition to ‘nine part formula’ other permissible main doors are East or North of North East, South of South East and West of North West.
- There should be no obstruction in front of the main gate.
- Maximum openings in the North and East bring in beneficial Infra Red Rays.
- Minimum openings in the South and West blocks the harmful Ultra Violet rays
Negative Energies– Cosmic radiations, geopathic stress, infra red radiations absorb human energy from our tine cell structures. This causes depletion in the energy levels resulting into disease. The following things may cause negative effects:
- Skins, leather belts and leather bags
- Old unused yantras with stains
- Gold or silver ornaments removed from dead persons
- Old brass or copper utensils display negative energy
- Recycled metal objects emit negativity.
- Old articles used by some people emit negative energy
- Cars should be checked for their negativity and quality of energy
- Objects whose shapes do not match with the environment reflect negativity.
- People living on Geopathic grids indicates the presence of negativity
- Certain type of gifts may carry negative vibrations
Nature and Science– A shelter is one of our primary needs which we build for protection and comfort. The best way to enjoy these is by being in a closer proximity to nature. Nature affects our lives through these basic factors which are dependent on five basic elements (Sky, Air, Water, Fire and Earth).
- Solar radiation
- Magnetic field of earth
- Gravitational attraction
- Velocity of winds and direction
- Cosmic energy
Sun rays which are electromagnetic radiations cover a wide range beginning from cosmic radiations to radio waves. The visible part of the sun rays is a tiny window called VIBGYOR which covers rays from violet to red. The rays beyond violet are known as ultra violet rays while the rays beyond red are known as infra red rays. Infra red radiations are extremely beneficial for us. They help in curing paralysis, muscular pain and a lot of other diseases. Infra red rays of sun energize and activate our body cells. On the other hand, the ultra violet rays (UV rays) burn the skin and give rise to genetic disorders. Thus, these rays are harmful for us. The main objective of Vaastu is to protect mankind from the disastrous ultra violet rays and to let them be exposed to the beneficial infra red rays of sun. This is possible through a proper Vaastu orientation of a house. This filtration process of ultra violet and infra red rays remains the essence of Vaastu Kala.
While designing a house, Vaastu experts make sure that all the inmates of the house are exposed to the beneficial sun rays while doing their activities in the house. However, as the position of the sun changes from sunrise to sunset, each room has to be positioned in such a way that it faces the sun during the time of the day when it is most likely to be used. Hence, wells and other water bodies should be positioned on the east and north directions of a house so that the UV rays from the morning sunlight can destroy the germs and make the water pure. The kitchen platform should be positioned in the eastern direction so that rays of morning sunlight can kill the germs of the kitchen counter and prevent spoiling of food. This also allows the person who is cooking to be automatically exposed to the useful morning sunrays. A lot of windows need to be built on the north and east direction and fewer on the southern and western sides of a house. Doing so, allows continuous sunlight into a house. It is advisable not to construct any obstacles such as compound walls, trees on the northern and eastern sides of the house. This helps to let in the sunlight from the northern direction and morning sunlight from the eastern direction resulting into a brighter and germ-free abode.
Infra red rays are said to reach the earth early in the morning from the eastern direction. This is why the entrance of our house and other openings should be in the east or north east, to be more specific. Similarly, ultra-violet radiations should be blocked from the south west and so we should have thicker, taller and relatively closed walls in the south west direction.
A small compound on the earth’s surface is like a small magnet. One should sleep north south to maintain a healthy blood circulation. Earth’s gravitational attraction demands the centre to be light and not unnecessarily be loaded. Also, the centre of gravity should be as nearer to the earth as possible. While the magnetic field of the earth decides the outer shape of the building, the gravitational attraction guides the placement of individual components of a building with due regard to the rays of the sun.
As per Vaastu, buildings should be built in such a way that it receives minimum of summer heat and maximum of the winter sunlight. For this, the amount of solar heat received by walls and openings of different directions need to be calculated. Vaastu means to live in a harmonious relationship with nature. It is an admixture of natural sciences, five element theory, orientation, colour effect, positive surroundings and symbolism. Just as natural sciences have remained unchanged, Vaastu has continued to be effective from time immemorial. It is a knowledge that is 5000 years old and still very much applicable.
Overhead water storage tanks– Overhead tanks should be located in the South Western corner or South Western area of the terrace and not in the Northern, Eastern and North Eastern zones. In case, the water tank is situated in the North Western or South Eastern corners, then one room should be constructed in the South Western corner that is taller than the existing tank. If the water storage is built in the South Western zone then it is the ideal one and no other construction needs to be done. While building the tank, the slab of the roof should be built independently on top of the roof with the support of a wall or pillar. In case, the tank is constructed in the North Eastern corner then another room higher and heavier than the tank should be constructed in the North Western corner followed by a still higher one in the South Eastern corner and followed by the tallest and heaviest room in the South Western corner. Even in such cases, the water tank should not touch the walls on the Northern and Eastern directions and there should be enough gap between the wall and the tank.
Puja Room– Traditionally, the North Eastern corner, which is the direction associated with God, is the ideal corner for the puja or worship room. Images and idols should be placed on the Eastern and Western corners of the room. Lamps or incense should be placed in front of the deity when burnt. However, these materials should be stored in the South Eastern corner. A slightly raised threshold at the entrance of the worship or puja room is extremely auspicious. If it is not possible to set aside a room completely for the purpose of worship, one can utilize the North Eastern corner of any room for the purpose of offering pooja. However, there should not be any toilets adjacent to this room. Windows of this room should ideally be in the Eastern or Northern direction.
Quality – Quality of a Vaastu friendly structure depends on proper ratio of following five essential Vaastu ingredients –
- Length,
- Breath,
- Height
- Marma
- Ayadi
All these are equally necessary to make quality of an Architecture Vaastu perfect.
Roads– The roads adjoining or facing the plot have an impact on the choice of the plot. Plots which face the Northern direction are favourable for commercial purposes. These plots attract prosperity and are auspicious for business purposes. Plots which face south are also favourable to use as commercial establishments. They are especially good for entertainment business. Plots with roads on the Northern and Eastern directions are known as Eshanya plots. North East is one of the most important and auspicious directions. This is a site that provides all round prosperity and well-being for the inmates. Eshanya is the direction related with growth. Care must be taken that the North Eastern direction is neither cut nor covered. Plots with roads in Southern and Eastern directions are Agneya plots. Due to the presence of excessive fire element, this type of a plot can give plenty of positive energy for excellent business ventures. These kinds of plots are extremely good for business like hotels, restaurants, bakery, furnace, electrical appliances etc. These are also good for business run by women. The South Eastern plot can be constructed to yield positive results by following Vaastu principles. Plots with roads on the Southern and Western direction are known as Nairitya or South West plots. These plots are unfavourable for residential purposes but can be used for business purposes especially hardware, building and construction firms.
Plots with roads on Northern and Western zones are known as Vayavya plots. These plots confer abundant wealth or even lead to bankruptcy. These types of plots can promote failure, enmity, disputes or litigation. However, it is quite a good zone for business related to media, public relations, communications and manufacture in dairy products. Plots having roads on the Northern and Southern sides do not possess remarkable strength. It is good to construct main door in the North. Plots having roads on the Eastern and Western sides are of medium strength. It is favourable to construct main door in the Eastern direction. Plots with roads on the North, West and East with the South closed are considered auspicious. These plots are regarded good for commercial purposes. Plots with roads on East, North and South with the West closed are favourable for business purposes. Plots with roads on South, East and West with North closed are of medium category and are good for residential purposes. Plots with roads on West, North and South and closed in the East are of medium category for residential purposes. These are however good for commercial purposes. The plot having roads on all four sides is most favourable for both residential and commercial purposes. It provides all round peace, well-being and happiness. These kinds of plots are beneficial for Cineplex and commercial centres. Plots situated at a dead end are extremely inauspicious especially South-facing plots that are blocked in all directions. Plots which face a T-junction or Y-junction are considered unfavourable too. As these roads point at the plot with a lot of concentrated energy hence they lead to mental disturbances and lack of focus. These plots are not ideal for residential purposes. In case of commercial purposes, the effect is somewhat lessened if the construction is done as per Vaastu rules.
Study Room– The study room should be in the Northern or Western direction. While studying, one should face the Eastern or Northern direction. Bookshelves should be positioned on the Northern or Eastern corners but never in the North West or South West corners. It is considered that books placed in the NW corner are damaged while books placed in the SW corner get neglected. Windows of the room should be in the North, East or West corners. The door of the study room should be at the North Eastern direction for beneficial results. The study table should be away from the wall; an open space in front of the table encourages new ideas and approach. There should be no door positioned behind the student. The lights of a study room should be bright but not too harsh for the eyes of the child. To energize concentration, the study lamp should be placed on the left. Placing a soothing picture or poster builds a calm atmosphere in the study room.
Safe Room– The safe room should be constructed in the Northern zone as it is considered to be the residing area of Kubera, the God of wealth. Vaastu does not recommend having the safe either in the worship room or the bedroom. The back side of the safe should be towards South and its door should face North that is towards Kubera. This rule applies not only to the safe but to all the objects that contain valuables. The South East and South West zones should be avoided. One inch between the safe and wall is an optimum gap that should be maintained. Doors of this room should be in the Northern or Western zone. The safe should always be placed on a pedestal and never on a ground. No heavy object should be placed on its top. Cobwebs in the safe room or around the house are regarded as an ill-sign and invites misery. The suitable colour for the safe room is light yellow.
Toilets– In today’s world, bathrooms and toilets come together so often that it is almost taken for granted. Vaastu science however, considers this practice as a disastrous one. Toilets are always constructed in the North West, West or South West leaving the South East and South West alone. The pot should be in the West, South or North West of the toilet. The door should be positioned in the Northern or Eastern direction. Reading in the toilet is regarded as a bad practice in Vaastu. Washrooms without toilets should be constructed in the East South East area, with the washbasin and shower in the North, East or North Eastern area of the room. Tubs should be placed in Eastern, Western or North Eastern area of the room. Water outlets should not be constructed in the South East or South West corners. Mirrors and doors should ideally be constructed in the North or East and not on the Southern zone. Light colours should be used for the bathrooms and dark colours such as red and black should be avoided.
Trees– Vaastu Shastra aims at utilizing natural powers of the sun, earth, water and trees etc. in a manner so as to benefit human beings and boost happiness and prosperity in their lives. Trees and plants have a deep connection with our well-being. In Vrikshayurveda, trees are said to be the protectors and sources of energy for our existence. They purify and revitalize the air that we breathe by removing harmful gases. As per astrological and Vaastu scriptures, different trees and plants are recommended for the different planets, moon signs and constellations (nakshatra) of our solar system. Out of many ways to appease planets, planting and nurturing trees have been given equal importance. According to Vaastu Shastra, to protect oneself from the negative effects of different planets, it is best to make use of roots of a variety of plants instead of costly gems. But it is vital to know where to plant a particular tree in order to get maximum positive results. Let us check out a few Vaastu guidelines on the directions in which various trees should be planted to gain optimum benefits-
- Jasmine, rose, marigold, champak and mogra plants produce positive energy so these trees should be planted in the eastern or northern direction of the house.
- Planting a Banyan tree in the eastern direction fulfills all wishes.
- The tulsi or holy basil plant is considered to be one of the most propitious and powerful plants. This holy plant should be planted in the north-east corners. It is a must to plant it in every house as it releases oxygen for 20 hours a day.
- Gooseberry in the north eastern (ishan kona), pomegranate in the south eastern (agneya kona), tamarind in the south western (nairitya kona) while kaith tree should be planted in the north western corner (vayavya kona).
- Small decorative plants, shrubs and ferns should be planted in the northern or eastern corners of the house.
- The best directions to set up an orchard are the north western or eastern direction. A small herb garden can be grown in the north eastern corner (Ishan kona) and it should have medicinal plants such as gooseberry and basil.
- If the south eastern corner (agneya kona) has a vaastu defect then a mango tree should be planted as a remedial measure.
- Fragrant plants or trees should be planted in the north western corner (vayavya kona).
- To plant peepal or sacred fig in west, pakad in north while cluster fig tree in the southern direction provides extraordinary benefits.
- As the Christmas and almond trees are in a pyramid shape hence these trees should be planted in the southern or western direction.
- Some of the auspicious trees are papaya, guava, apple, gulmohur, ashok, neem, coconut, sandalwood, pineapple, almond, pomegranate, gooseberry and tulsi. Of these the small and light plants should be planted in the eastern or northern direction while big and heavy trees should be planted in the western or southern direction.
- Some of the plants such as tulsi, neem, punnag, pomegranate, ashoka, jati, nag, saffron, jayanti, sandal, aparajita, bel, mango, coconut, maulshri, jackfruit, magfnolia, jasmine, cinnamon, vine, shamee, arjun, betel nut, rose, umbrella tree, naagar, pippali or long pepper, creepers and grapes are fit to be planted in any direction.
A quick look at the plants and the corresponding directions in which these should be planted as per Vaastu-

Universal Energy– Every plot is surrounded by a peculiar kind of energy and universal magnetic field. A wall around the plot gives rise to a particular energy and magnetic field inside the plot. If there is an absence of a compound wall the advantages of the magnetic field and energy cannot be enjoyed. It is essential to construct a thick compound wall in the Western and Southern zones. In the Northern and Eastern corners, a thinner wall of a lesser height may serve the purpose. A square plot enables to gain energy level inside a plot in the proper proportion. In a rectangular shaped plot, the energy level is gained in a medium level. In order to gain optimum energy level inside the plot, it is extremely important to make the Northern and Eastern zones vacant. Construction of the compound wall North East, North West and South West corners create hindrances in the path of formation of universal magnetic field and energy level. With the construction of any room such as garage or lavatory totally destroys the positive natural energies. Hence, the North Eastern corner should always be left vacant and storage systems of underground water should be constructed here, if possible. Due to the presence of water, the cosmic rays get absorbed in the earth thereby helping the building. Trees should not be planted in the North, East or North East corner of the plot as it obstructs the absorption of the favourable UV rays by the land and the building is deprived of the beneficial rays. Water should be sprinkled in the Northern and Eastern corners of the plot. Doing so creates a catalytic action which helps the land to absorb the auspicious rays to a larger extent.
The cosmic energy is associated with the North East corner of the house and the head of Vaastu Purush. It deals with the range that starts from the head of the body until throat and with the mental abilities of the inhabitants. It also is associated with the creativity, spirituality, power of concentration and contentment in life. Global energy is connected with navel and belly of Vaastu Purush and to the centre (brahmasthan) of the house. It deals with the range starting from the throat until navel. It is associated with the emotional level of the body. It also is connected with the health and growth of a person.
Telluric energy is related to the lower part and feet of the Vaastu purusha’s body and with the south western corner of the house. It deals with the range starting from navel until feet. It also is connected with the physical strength of the inhabitant’s body and with financial security and professional success of a person.
Underground Water Tanks– Underground water tanks should be positioned in the North Eastern zone of the plot but should not touch the Northern or Eastern compound wall. Underground water tanks should be a little away from the imaginary line that joins the South Western and North Eastern zones of the plot and the one that joins the North Eastern area of the building and that of the plot. The underground tanks should not be constructed in the South Eastern corners.
Universal Energy– As per major Upanishads and the Vedas, it is the Brahman or Pranashakti that controls every action in this universe. This energy is known by the name of Universal energy or the Brahman, Prana, Chi, Ki, Mana, Orgone etc.
The spectrum of the sun radiation consists of Y Rays, X Rays, Ultra Violet Rays, VIBGYOR, Infra Red Ray, Micro Wave and Radio Wave. Ifra Red Rays energize and activate the body cells and are beneficial for human beings. The UV rays are harmful for man as they burn the skin and create genetic disorders. Hence, a building should be oriented in such a manner that it lets in maximum Infra Red Rays and blocks the Ultra Violet Rays.
Vaastu Purush– The Vedic god of Vaastu is Vastospati or Vaastu Rakshasa, Vaastu Nara, Vaastu Bhuta or Vaastu Purush as in puranic times. Vaastu Purush is regarded as the deity of any structure on this earth. Pujan and offerings need to be made to Vaastu Purush and in return, he takes care of the inmates. By worshipping Vaastu Purush, the Trinity powers (Brahma, Vishnu and Mageshwara) and all the other gods and goddesses are being venerated. Vaastu Purush is revered to seek protection from all perils and to ask for remission for any doshas present in the structure. Forty-five deities are said to be present in the various parts of Vaastu Purush. The Vaastu Purush rests in an inverted posture with its head towards the North Eastern direction and feet in the South Western direction. Its position indicates the importance of a building or site as it rests in a perfect square. The Vaastu Purush is of three types -Sthir vaastu, Char vaastu and Nitya vaastu.
Vaastu Purush Mandala– There are different types of Vaastu Purush Mandala: 8/8 grid (64 grid) known as manduk, 9/9 (81 grid) known as Paramsahika and 10/10 (100 grid) known as asana for different purposes. The 9/9 grid called Paramsahika is the ideal one and most acceptable. Vaastu purush is generally of square grid but there are provisions for triangular and circular shaped mandalas as well.
Ventilators– The preferred corners for ventilators are Northern, Eastern or North-Eastern zones. Though the Western zones are acceptable, the Southern, South Eastern and South Western zones should be avoided as far as possible. Openings in the Eastern zone usher in the solar energy which helps to achieve name and fame. Openings in the North provide us with the benefit of the earth’s positive magnetic energy which leads to financial growth. Since, ventilators in the North Eastern zone result into an all round benefit from nature, maximum number of ventilators should be constructed in these corners.
Windows– Many Vaastu scholars are of the view that the number of windows should be even. Wind forces consist of pranic energy that is beneficial for us. They come from the Northern and Eastern direction moving towards the Western and Southern direction. Therefore, we need to scientifically calculate the total surface areas of the windows positioned in the North Eastern side and compare them with the surface area of the windows positioned in the Southern and Western zones put together. This ratio should at least be 2:1 to get optimum benefits.
X – The X factor is the invisible energy or X factor of Vastu Purush Mandal incorporating all the 45 Devtas who occupy 64/81/100 Padas of Vaastu Purush Mandal of a space. In addition, energy of Five Elements, Three Gunas and other factors create an invisible but effective energy manifestation from initiation to conclusion.
Yantra– If you desire to install a specific yantra in order to dispel any particular damaging or destructive impact, it is advised to do it under the guidance of an experienced Vaastu pundit. In Vaastu science, yantras in most cases, accompanied by relevant mantras are used to eliminate problems.
Bhouma yantra- This yantra should be installed when articles are stolen from the shop or office or when the customers have not paid for the goods received etc.
Indrani yantra- This yantra should be installed if a person incurs losses in spite of taking necessary preventive measures.
Dikdoshanashaka yantra- It is a powerful and effective yantra to drive away Vaastu faults as it helps to correct direction related Vaastu faults.
Sri yantra- The Sri-yantra is attributed to Lord Ganesha who bestows prosperity, happiness and well-being. In order to gain maximum benefits, it should be installed at the front and back side of the door frame along with the idol or image of Lord Ganesha.
Sarvamangal Vaastu yantra or Swastik yantra- Installation of this yantra not only dispels Vaastu defects but also ensures an all-round development and prosperity. It enables to appease the Vaastu Purush and all directions. It also removes away all evils from the house, shop or office. This yantra is an all-in-one yantra installed for multiple uses.
Zonal Plan– In order to construct the zone plan of a plot, single room or a building, the ground plan is necessary along with the specification of the cardinal directions. The current use of the rooms of a house or plot areas should also be noted in the plan. If the shape of the plot or building is square or rectangle or their boundaries are parallel to North, South, East or West axis then it is the ideal one for obtaining energy. In such a case, the construction of the zone plan also becomes the easiest. In case, the shape of a plot is not square or rectangular and the boundaries are not parallel to the cardinal directions then a rectangular frame needs to drawn on the ground plan around the structures in such a way that the frame sides are parallel to the cardinal directions. The shape of the plot or building just needs to fit into this frame. The plot or building extensions also need to be integrated into this frame.
